"When we started work on the site, we uncovered outcroppings of stone everywhere, and we had to decide how to deal with it. I chose to integrate the property’s nature into what we were building, and it completely changed the direction of the house. I followed the lead of the stone, which inspired a warm, modern design. We echoed the forms of more traditional architecture, so the result feels both reassuringly known and refreshingly new."

"The intention of building my home in Montecito was to be in nature, and to be outside as much as possible.
