The Anthro Saloon

Lassoing looks & memories at our latest pop-up.

When planning this year’s fall campaign, our North Star pointed West. We chased it, corralling the best denim, leather, and metals to merge country with couture. To celebrate the launch, we brought a sartorial saloon into the twenty-first century, joining AnthroPerks members as they stepped off the busy streets of Manhattan and into the Anthro Saloon Pop-Up, located on the corner of Third Ave and 27th Street. Dust off your boots and read on to learn more about the event!

THE EXPERIENCE

Upon arrival, howdy replaced hello! Stylists handed us bandanas adorned with motifs: bulls, stars, horseshoes, and the iconic Anthropologie ‘A.’ We quickly made our way to the custom embroidery station, where we decided to have our initials stitched into the fabric with bright red thread.

Coursing through the space felt like stepping into an Old Western, as if we’d just rolled in with horses and tumbleweeds. Twangy tunes filled the air. Smiles filled our faces. Cowboy boots clicked against the floor.

We sipped on complimentary drinks – ranch water and iced tea – sat for personalized B&W portraits, and decorated our arms with temporary tattoos.

Of course, we had to get our hands on Anthropologie’s most-wanted jacket: The Weston by Pilcro – perfectly oversized, slouchy yet structured – this outlaw is definitely in style. Once in full getup, we roamed the saloon, stopping for photographs at the Gleaming Primrose Mirror, the swinging batwing doors, and the western wagon wheel.

THE LOOKS

Our West ensembles outfitted The Saloon – shining stars amongst saddles and suitcases, botanicals and old-timey photographs of women serving as modern-day muses. Exploring each corner made it evident there’s a range of ways to make this fashion moment all your own.

Our attitude? All about accessories. Whether Western already plays a role in your wardrobe or you're seeking a new adventure, adding a pair of classic boots, statement jewelry, or a wide-brimmed hat will let you take the style reins.

Plus, our expansive boot pickings – from signature pointed toes and intricate stitching to lush suede and pops of color – opens a wide range of styling possibilities. Metal jewelry (think hammered textures, lots of silver, and turquoise touches) and leather belts boasting sculptural accents forge an unforgettable statement. But before you giddy up, don’t forget your cowboy hat!

The compass pointed us in the direction of fashion frontier's most hardworking fabrics: denim, suede, and leather. Denim is as classic as it gets, both in a Western and a NYC way. It is and will always be a true staple. Whether you're headed downtown or uptown, denim captures the Western spirit when paired with the perfect accent. Jeans with a suede fringe jacket (we can’t get enough of the chic detail) and leather boots? Yeehaw. Strutting the streets in a full denim ensemble or cinching a classic buttondown with a belt? Buckle up.

For those seeking a taste of the true West, the looks were aplenty. Tailored vests, slip dresses, and animal prints are just as poised to win the horse race. When partnered with the right accessories and pieces, their of-the-moment appeal ups any outfit dynamic. By wearing the pieces you already have and leaning into accessorizing, you too can take part in the rodeo.

THE TUNES

Before opening day, country music artist Mickey Guyton gave a boot-scootin' VIP performance, after which we chatted about the Western renaissance in music and fashion. "We are going back to our roots and the amount of people engaging in this moment is beautiful," she exclaimed.

Thinking about what she'll be wearing during her upcoming tour, Mickey mentioned the moments she won't be missing: "browns and rich coloring, suede and leather, fringe and rhinestones." When it comes to inspiration, she's looking to none other than the rodeo for authenticity. She also mentioned "the turquoise, fringe, and rich colors" that are so vibrant in Indigenous cultures inspire her uniquely.
Before opening day at our Los Angeles Saloon, country singer-songwriter Brittney Spencer corralled quite a crowd. Afterward, we asked her about how her personal style merges with her stage persona. "I'm inspired by the fashion of the '70s music scene. It's the reason I often wear a bell-bottom jumpsuit on stage," she shared. Often, she finds herself channeling the icons: Dolly Parton, James Brown, and Fleetwood Mac. "I've spent a lot of time and energy honing my on-stage look – the stage is my place to merge my music and my personal expression." For her, it means sparkling vests or jeans, animal-print pants, and worn-in, distressed details.
