Behind the Design:
Plenty by Tracy Reese

The Detroit designer is back with a joyful new collaboration.

The name Tracy Reese brings to mind a few things: gorgeous prints, perfect tailoring, and collections favored by Michelle Obama, Mindy Kaling, and Taylor Swift that somehow remain down-to-earth – for starters.

That this fashion legend’s name can be found at Anthropologie is, and long has been, an honor.

With this season’s revival of our Plenty by Tracy Reese label, we’re excited to bring you a collaboration that’s colorful, cheerful, and as always, approachably chic.

“This collection was inspired by simple joy and the longing to look and feel pretty again,” Tracy tells us. “I worked with a palette of my favorite colors including almost every imaginable shade of pink and denim-friendly blues. Some of the prints we played with are based on archival Plenty patterns and others were developed from scratch in our studio.”

Not long ago, Tracy relocated her studio space from New York City to her hometown of Detroit, Michigan, where she’s spent the past year surrounded by local artisans and involved with grassroots communities. Though the Big Apple seems to get all the chatter, “I am always inspired by the art scene in Detroit,” she says. “The galleries and smaller museums like MOCAD are fantastic platforms for homegrown talent.”

Women everywhere, from New York to Detroit and from Tracy’s A-list clientele to admirers like us, “want to feel beautiful and confident,” the designer says. “We also want to be comfortable. For me, these three considerations are core to any successful design.”

Our latest Plenty by Tracy Reese collection delivers, in a range of sizes spanning plus and petite, so more women than ever can find the right fit.

“I am so excited this collection is size inclusive,” say Tracy. When designing plus or petite styles, her approach doesn’t shift much, she says, because “everyone who loves fashion is basically excited for and craving the same things.”

“The key is in adjusting fit and proportion to flatter different body types.”

Tracy’s designs celebrate real women’s shapes – and, if you ask us, femininity itself. “I have always loved feminine colors and details and try to incorporate them in ways that feel relaxed and modern,” she says. “I don’t think we as women need to sacrifice our femininity to be powerful. If anything, leaning into the qualities that make us more wholly ourselves can make us even more successful.”

With that in mind, we’re leaning into a bold, beautiful summer that’s felt like a long time coming, in styles that embody a well-earned, brunch-on-the-patio feeling. Tracy has several favorites, she says, “but the Poppies Dress features in every fantasy I’ve had of a long overdue beach vacation."

All we can say is: We’ll see you there.
