As women, we have our moms, grandmas, and family-friend aunties to thank for so much. Maybe we inherited their confidence, or their compendium of recipes.
When Nancy Twine, founder of Briogeo Hair Care, was a girl, she watched her grandmother concoct locally sought-after beauty potions with ingredients like almond oil and sugar. She watched her mother, a physician, put in long days and nights to manage her practice and support her patients.
Both, in their own ways, inspired Nancy to create Briogeo, our favorite source for clean, works-for-everyone hair care.

Nancy Twine
Founder, Briogeo Hair Care
Nancy began her professional life on another path entirely: For about 7 years after college, her workdays took place on the trading floor with finance giant Goldman Sachs. It was demanding, exhilarating, and lucrative, and before Nancy had even turned 30, she’d been promoted to vice president. She poured her energy, brainpower, and most waking hours into work. By all accounts, she was winning.
But in 2010, tragedy turned Nancy’s life upside down with the unexpected death of her mother. Suddenly, Wall Street didn’t feel so fulfilling anymore.
She decided to pour her heart into a budding business idea that would become her new direction, something she’d often scanned stores for, but not yet spotted: elevated, effective hair care, for all hair types from frizzy to fine, and made from only the safest, most sustainable stuff. With her grandmother’s wisdom and her mom’s determination, Nancy knew she could make it happen.

So at night, on the weekends, and in every precious, free minute she could find (and at first, using just her own savings) Nancy charted trends, researched ingredients, and conferred with chemists. She vetted manufacturers, pitched investors, and experimented with packaging. It was therapeutic, she says, to devote herself to something she loved.
For four years, she pulled double duty, keeping her job in finance while building Briogeo on the side. In 2014, with more than enough investors and sales to keep the brand growing, she became full-time CEO.
At Anthropologie, we’re proud to work with Nancy, and it turns out our partnership goes way back: Our sister brand, Urban Outfitters, was one of the first retailers to begin carrying Briogeo after meeting Nancy at a trade show years ago.
"Briogeo celebrates diversity, individuality, creativity, and discovery — all things that Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters hold at their core," Nancy explains.
Today, UO and Anthro sing Briogeo's praises together – we love the price tag, love the ingredients, and love that diversity is built into the brand with solutions for women of all ethnicities and hair types, all under one umbrella. In Nancy's words: "The Anthropologie woman wants to look like herself, and not like everyone else."
Nancy learned from the best. Now she inspires us, and the next generation, too.
