This authentic Vintage Moroccan Boucherouite Rug is part of a special collection by Soukie Modern. Boucherouite rugs are handwoven by Berber tribal women for domestic use in the home. The word Boucherouite stems from the Arabic bu sherwit meaning “a scrap from used clothing”. Indeed these one-of-a-kind whimsical works of art are made from recycled cloth and are both durable and warming to any space. Easy to clean, a Boucherouite rug is suitable for spaces experiencing heavy foot traffic. The humble origins of these rugs serve only to accentuate the remarkable nature of the finished products. Upcycling at its highest level, the talented Berber weaver makes art out of scraps.

Kenya Knight, a Hollywood-born California girl, and Taib Lotfi, a Moroccan of Berber descent, founded Soukie Modern with the vision of blending the best that their cultures have to offer…something like to call a “Collective Casbah”. The duo utilize Taib’s extensive network of Berber tribal dealers and weavers to source authentic, one of a kind, Moroccan rugs and textiles. They house their collection at their store in Palm Springs, California, where they proudly share the history and the mesmerizing symbolism behind the weavers’ techniques and designs.
