From emerging designers to household names, Anthropologie has a rich history of collaboration – merging universes to create something beautifully unique. Our latest meeting of minds delivers flowers all the way from Spain: meet Anthropologie x Delpozo.

From a petal-covered arm chair to an array of sweeping maxi dresses, the 22-piece collection with the Spanish fashion house brings bold colour and statement florals to both wardrobes and homes.

Yet to discover the prêt-à-couture maestros? Let’s get to know a little more about the brand.

Founded by Jesús del Pozo in 1974, Delpozo’s mastery of intricate embroidery, ethereal fabrics and voluminous silhouettes played out at the top of the haute couture scene. With inventive and pioneering designs gracing the catwalk season after season, Pozo’s atelier quickly became a revered hub of creativity and a Spanish fashion icon was born.

The intervening years have seen Delpozo blossom and evolve, with a slightly different handwriting emerging from one creative director to another, but one thing has always remained: the desire to design for the contemporary woman.

Today, the man behind Delpozo’s designs is Lutz Huelle. Born in Germany, a graduate of Central St Martins, a resident of both Paris and Madrid, and the creative lead for a Spanish brand, Lutz is as well versed in European style as it gets. That being said, he admits that taking the reins at such a beloved fashion house was a daunting concept.

“Delpozo holds such a special place in Spanish culture and history, so as someone who isn’t Spanish I had to ask myself, ‘How do I fit into this mold?’

“When you think about Spain, all of the things that spring to mind are true – there’s this joy of life, it’s incredibly exuberant, it’s passionate – so, it was easy to slip into this seductive world.”

This respect for Delpozo’s past hasn’t hampered the way that Lutz envisions the brand’s future. His intention to bring all of the beauty and uniqueness, which has so far been the reserve of the red carpet, to every day wear is already unfurling. As he very succinctly puts it, “Hence this collaboration.”

The Anthropologie x Delpozo process began in June 2019, and according to Anthropologie’s womenswear designer Collette Brown, it immediately became apparent that both brands had met their perfect match. “When we first met Lutz and the Delpozo team there was an immediate warmth. We delved deep into their archive, looked at what the brand really stood for and quickly realised there was an abundance of things we could explore together,” Collette explains of the meeting of minds.

It’s a sentiment that’s shared by Lutz. “I see Anthropologie and Delpozo as similar entities. Both brands have a very unique perspective and are very personal. There’s a joy in both brands that’s not often seen, and they both have a beautiful way of seeing women and design."

With a whole collection to explore, we asked Lutz and Collette to share their favourite pieces. “It’s tough but for me it has to be the pompom all-in-one jumpsuit,” says Collette. “It’s a real piece of fun and something that you’ll have in your wardrobe forever.”

Lutz, however, is taking a slightly different approach to styling his favourite piece. “I love the floral maxi dress with the bar straps. The fabric falls so perfectly. I think someone in that dress, sitting on the statement yellow arm chair would be the most wonderful. They have to be bought together – it’s a twin set!”
