Jewellery Journeys:

Maya Magal x Anthropologie

Discover the tales of wanderlust which inspired our latest collaboration.
By Holly Hartzenberg

When we fall head over heels with a destination, we often want to take a small piece of our experience home with us. A touchstone which will transport us back to the sights, sounds and atmosphere of each special place. Whether it’s snow-capped peaks or breath-taking coastlines, jewellery makes the perfect memento, a small talisman that carries our travels with us.

Our exclusive collaboration with jeweller Maya Magal infuses this feeling of wanderlust into a rich array of mixed metals, geometric settings and asymmetric stones. Five members of our team worked with the cult designer to conjure beautiful pieces inspired by the destinations which hold a special place in their hearts.

Time for an adventure. Discover the travel stories behind each Maya Magal x Anthropologie design…

The Gemma Necklace & Ring Set
Hiriketiya, Sri Lanka

gemma

"This piece was inspired by Hiriketiya. A small but beautiful beach, rich in natural beauty, located on Sri Lanka's southern coastline. One evening I sat on the sand and watched the sun set into the water. I wanted each ring to represent a different element of the spectacle. The waves, the sand and that lovely frothy bit that lingers on the shoreline - all connected and looped into a rhythmic repetition as the sun goes down. Bliss.”

The Holly Emerald Ring
Cape Cod, USA

“The stones in my ring were inspired by the turquoise waters of the sea surrounding beautiful Cape Cod. The sea always gives me that moment of calmness when I see it glistening in the sun and crashing against the shore. The layout was inspired by an antique ring my fiancé’s glamorous grannie wears!”

The Leanne Stacking Rings
Cerro Fitzroy, Patagonia

leanne
“This design was inspired by Cerro Fitzroy, an iconic mountain located in Patagonia, South America. Nestled on the border between Argentina and Chile, it cuts the most iconic line across the sky. At the time of my visit I was newly-wed, and my husband and I had spent a month in the region. The hike up to the glacial lake below Cerro Fitzroy was the climax of a magical experience. This trio of stacking rings pays homage to that experience – rock, ice, jagged formations, and all of the beauty that they hold.”

The Laura Layered Necklace
Sydney, Australia

laura
“Every element of this necklace is inspired by the sun and is designed to be worn individually or as a set. From the circular charms to the citrine coloured stone and gold studs this piece takes me back to my home in Sydney, Australia. Think sandy beaches, salty water and all-day sunshine! My favourite!”

The Charlotte Hoop Earrings
Sanlucar de Barrameda, Spain

“I wanted to design a piece that could be styled in different ways, something as effortless as a holiday itself. These hoops can be worn together to create statement earrings or detached and worn as stacking rings. They have an elemental feel which is organic in form and makes them very easy to wear. On a recent trip to Sanlucar de Barrameda in Southern Spain it was the only jewellery I took with me; they were perfect for lazing on the beach by day and sipping Manzanilla in the town square by night!”
