Maximalist Accessories with Forever
Yours Betty
Accessory combinations that’ll rival the tree.
Words by Leanna Mascoll Wheaton
Sheri Scott, better known as Forever Yours Betty, is maximalism personified. The vibrant hair, the bright clothing and bold make-up is all artfully crafted to command attention.
It’s easy to spot all of this on a surface level, but look closely at Sheri’s outfit curations and you’ll see that this maximalist approach goes beyond the obvious and right down to the details – she knows exactly how to amplify the effect with the help of a good accessory or two. Or three.

“For me, accessories make or break an outfit. Put the right ones with jeans and a jumper and you can elevate the whole look. Put a relaxed combination with an evening dress, and you can make it day-time appropriate,” she muses on the power of a good selection. “Whatever style I’m going for, I always take a more-is-more approach. Layers of fine necklaces, bracelets and rings, or lots of big statement pieces.”
We asked Sheri to show us three easy-to-master ways to master her look. Maximalists, take this as a new bank of inspiration. Wallflowers, take this as a lesson.
Clip It
“The hair clips trend isn’t going anywhere. There’s no rule and you can never have to many, so go wild. Clip them into the side or down the back of loose hair, snap them on to ponytails and plaits, and mix up the pairings – pearls with diamantes and tort finishes, traditional shapes with novel shapes.

Up the Ante
“I like to throw a headband on alongside all of my hair clips for a different take on both trends. On their own, they make a statement but together, they take things to another level. Match the details of both – say pearls with pearls – and it’ll be easy to pull this look off.”

The New Co-Ord
“Match your hair accessories to your earrings and go big and dramatic with both. I don’t believe that if one thing is a bold then everything else has to be dialled back, but I would recommend picking complementary colours and finishes so that they don’t compete with each other. Sometimes, it takes a little trial and error, but when you get the combination right, you’ll know – it’ll just look and feel right. Simple as that.”

Practically Perfect
“When we’re thinking about statement accessorising for the season’s festivities, we often forget about the functional things: hats, scarves and bags This year, I’m definitely thinking about these as additions to my outfits as opposed to things that get me from A to B and then before I remove them. They’re great vehicles for standout colour and interesting materials so keep them on and use them to enhance your look.”
