Favorite Daughter
We’ve all felt the tug of wardrobe wistfulness. That rueful feeling when a new piece of clothing doesn’t sit quite the way we’d hoped it to – or when those shiny new shoes leave us nursing sore toes after the first wear...

It’s a sentiment sisters Erin and Sara Foster were all too familiar with, and, after years in the entertainment industry, the pair decided to take matters into their own hands. The result: Favorite Daughter, a label that sets out to turn every sartorial wish into a wearable reality. Seasonless fashion? Tick. Form-flattering fits? Tick. Elevated styles that don’t compromise on comfort? Tick.

The duo’s eye for design and obsession with detail has since flourished into a much-loved brand, recently landing exclusively at Anthro from across the pond. Clean, chic, and easy-to-wear, the collection blends elegance with West Coast charm, giving rise to trendsetting pieces made to turn heads.

So, to mark the occasion, we sat down with the sisters themselves, to talk everything from family bonds to Parisian muses…
Favorite Daughter
Let’s go back to the beginning. How did Favorite Daughter first come to be?

Erin: “We worked together on a previous collaboration, and one of our designs featured the slogan favorite daughter. It outsold everything – by a lot! That got us thinking about the concept of sibling rivalry, and, given the sister relationship at the core of our brand, it just felt right to use it as the foundation.”

Sara: “What’s more, we felt like there was a gap in the women’s ready-to wear space. We wanted to fill that gap (and with an all-female team, too!).”

Between you both, you’ve written, performed and acted. What made you join forces and change your focus to fashion?

S: “Erin and I decided that we would start making decisions from a place of yes. When the opportunity presented itself, we knew we might never get another one, so we just jumped in head-first.”

E: “Nothing in our careers has happened in a straight line; we’ve never had a five or ten year plan. We’ve let life take us in different directions and it’s always proved to be a good method for us. So, when it came to Favorite Daughter, we did just that: said “yes”, changed direction, and threw all of ourselves into it.”

As sisters you must have an incredible bond. How does that help you as business partners?

S: “Being sisters, there’s just a certain understanding. We’re forced to make things work because walking away is not an option. (We also don’t have to reimburse the other for lunch!)”

Can you think of a memory together you’re particularly fond of?

E: “Any time we see someone we admire placing an order, we get really excited. It’s a feeling like no other.”

Before creating a collection, where do you look for inspiration?

E: “We find inspiration everywhere. Our fashionable friends, street style photos – and of course, all things French and chic.”

You’re based in sunny California. What’s the best thing about living (and working) there?

E: “California just has a really relaxed lifestyle. You get to recharge between meetings, take things slow, eat dinner outside all year long... I like the pace of it all.”

S: “That said, we’ve definitely experienced wanderlust! I’d love to live in London at some point.”

If you had to describe the Favorite Daughter woman in five words, what would they be?

S: “Multitasker, chic, confident, passionate, stylish.”

E: “She does what she wants.”

Style and comfort seem to go hand in hand in your designs. Can you tell us why combining both is so important to you?

S: “You’ll never see us in an itchy sweater or stiff trousers just because they’re trendy. We are all about comfort, because when you’re comfortable, you’re happy, and when you’re happy, you feel good – and when you feel good, you look good.”

We’re so excited to have Favorite Daughter here at Anthro! What are the pieces we’re stocking that everyone should have on their wishlist?

E: “The Kelly Blazer is a must-have, as well as The Envy Slip Dress and The Favourite Trousers.

Any words of advice for a budding designer who would like to follow in your footsteps?

S: “My best advice is look to those around you. Surround yourself with smart people, talented people – and don’t be afraid to defer to their judgment!”

E: “Be true to yourself. Don’t follow a trend – create the trend.”
