Way Up High: A Tour of the Crane 29 Treehouse

We’ve always dreamt of having our own treehouse – up high, nestled amongst palmy leaves, sun filled, covered in plump cushions, the perfect little oasis from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

So, when Canopy & Stars came knocking at our door with plans to transform this treehouse pipe dream into a reality, we quickly asked to know more.

Canopy & Stars at Crane 29 is a one-of-a-kind treehouse, nestled up high on one of Bristol Harbourside’s iconic cranes and perfect for weekend escapes. Surrounded by the hustle and bustle of a vibrant city, it’s a nature-inspired oasis crafted of reclaimed wood, teaming with deep green foliage, woodland smells and sounds, and decorated with a delicate curation of our newest home & furniture arrivals.

Anthropologie’s Visual Manager and interiors fanatic Kelly Matthews was our gal on the floor (or in the air), hand placing cushions, hanging tassel-fringed hammocks and making sure every plant pot was just so.

We caught up with Kelly to talk through Crane 29, room by room, to find out how we could bring a little bit of this nature-inspired oasis back to our home.

“Plants, plants and more plants. Use them throughout to create a feeling of calm—hanging planters over dining tables and placing larger palms strategically are your quickest wins.

Soften the hard lines of contemporary furniture such as sofas with lots of cushions and draped throws, and if your playfulness stretches to it (and your ceiling can support it!) a hammock really rounds off the relaxed setting.”

“The bedroom of Crane 29 is all about harnessing calm and tranquility. You can get this feel at home by layering lavender plants into your room—it helps promote natural sleep.

Bring essential parts of the room to life—like your bed—with textured pillows and colour pop throws. Keep nature’s mineral colour palette in mind and just use these bright tones to add a little interest.”

“The kitchen is a great place to create a fun display out of everyday items.

Blue glassware, or any other bold colour will sit nicely against raw wood shelves turning your glasses, plates and bowls into an artistic moment.”

“With just a few simple touches you can give your bathroom the vibe of a tropical, outdoor shower.

My top tip for achieving this? Pile plants into nooks and corners to bring life and interest to otherwise unused spaces. Adding a large statement mirror or a couple of smaller ones will magnify the affect”
