Autumn, how we love you so. As soon as the air cools and the leaves turn brown, we're already anticipating the warm glow of fairy lights, the sweet sips of hot chocolate and a renewed sense of being. As an ode to one of our favourite seasons, we've brought some mischief and magic to our store windows, which, let's be honest, we never do by halves.
Introducing 'Forest Song', a woodland medley of dried foliage, felt fauna and birch bark. So, just how did our talented display team create this fairytale? Well, it took thirteen artists and around two months from idea to fruition.

A rich wonderland, handcrafted from

"Our vision was to create an autumnal wonderland, full of quirky characters. The change of seasons is always special, but after the year we've had, we felt it was important to inject some much-needed magic into people's days," says Display Manager Bryn White.
To bring the work to life, the team looked to nature itself, coming up with creative ways to reuse and repurpose elements that lie around us. They used brown eucalyptus, mini fern and various iterations of oak (you’ll also see sheafs of piumetta white throughout) to create a life-like feel and blended them altogether using wood glue, paint and card. To make it even more realistic, the team used birch bark sheets to lay the foundation.

"We worked to craft the materials in a way that felt natural, but still evocative,” said Bryn. "Dried foliage for example blur the lines between the changing landscape outdoors and the displays. We wanted the feel to be classic Anthro - focusing on handcrafted details, textures that feel inviting and lots of layers."
But, it wouldn't be an Anthro window without some fun. "If you look closely, you'll see felt mushrooms and leaves that appear to sway in the wind." An element of surrealism is where the heart of Anthropologie comes in, a longing to spark interest and conversation amongst everyday shoppers.

As Bryn says, "It's always fun to see these kinds of projects come to life and watch people's reactions as they see them for the first time."
