This one is PRETTY with vibrant shocks of color! A 1930s Art Deco Chinese rug with a deep espresso-brown ground so solid and velvety that the florals seem to float on it.

Hot pink hibiscus and open-petaled blossoms erupt from wandering taupe vines that curl and spiral along the borders. Sky blue chrysanthemums appear between them, cooler, more contemplative, their spiky petals a counterpoint to the hot pink’s exuberance. Taupe leaves drift on the vine between the blooms. The floral art with pop and brilliance moves around a perfectly open, gloriously empty center field… that darkness at the heart of it is not emptiness. It’s intention. It’s what makes the flowers sing.

Look closely at the open field and you'll notice a faint bluish streak running through it, a whisper of a different dye lot, a different batch of wool worked in by the female weaver's own hand. Not a flaw…a fingerprint. A quiet signature, the way artists have always marked their work.

The wool pile is solid, HEAVY (high quality, baby) velvety with sheen. You truly feel the weight of it when you pick it up. First class wool, densely knotted with vegetable dyed wool. Very nice condition for its age with minimal condition issues. She's solid and sturdy underfoot. And it is even better in person…that espresso ground has a depth that photographs simply cannot fully capture. The sheen catches the light differently at every angle. You have to see it to really understand it. That's the lanolin oils trapped in the sheep's wool. It's utterly GORGEOUS.
