I loved this dress when I saw it in the store, and felt it was just the type of dress I always need for my casual work environment in spring and summer (in Texas!) - easy to wear, can add a sweater when needed, casual or works for more dressed up occasions based on shoes, jewelry, etc.. I tried a medium, my normal size, and thought it looked great from the front - pretty much like the model photo.
From the side it wasn't so successful, though - I am a little curvy and thought the dress accented the curves ... not so well. The effect was the back ruffle hugging my bum a little and I looked a little like a sausage in a ruffled casing. I could have sized up for more drape from the side view, but think it would have been too long - I like dresses a few inches above my knee and this was fine from the front with the longer ruffle in back - I wouldn't want it any longer. (I'm 5' 7", so this is not a short dress).
Recommended for quality (nice soft lining) and style, perhaps not for a curvy girl (at least not this one!) and better on a taller, willowy figure.

This dress is much nicer in person! It's a flattering fit that helps hide any tummy imperfections. The texture in the material makes it look like a nicer quality than pictured online. It can be dressed up with the right accessories for a evening out or dressed down for a casual event. A perfect LBD for spring/summer. It does run a little big. I'm 5'6", size 10 and the medium worked perfectly. Highly recommend!

Similar to the previous reviewer, I bought this dress as a light, easy to wear, beachy dress.. despite being black. I want easy to wash, carefree, versatile, comfortable dresses for travelling.
The material is a nice light textured gingham fabric. It's lined with a slightly tighter, thicker jersey. I personally prefer lighter fabrics and I would have preferred for it to not be lined, or use a lighter jersey.
From the photo I thought the dress has more a tent/swing shape, but once I tried it on, not so. It's more straight/sheath-shaped and then has the ruffled bottom. This, along with the jersey liner -could be a reason why I think it would be hot in the summer - the liner hugs my hips.
I am 5'5 and straight/slender. Small busted with slightly wider hips. The dress is longer on me than the model - hitting JUST above the knee. I ordered an XS. It fit me well at the top around the arms, but I wonder if I would have got the tent/swing shape if I got a size larger.
Overall, it's a good basic dress and could be good for travel. It's still comfy, doesn't really wrinkle, well-made, and can be dressed up or down. I kept it, but my search for the perfect light travel dress still continues.
