Rated 5 out of 5 by Nautical with a romantic vintage twist! I ordered a place setting for 4. One each of the salad plates, 4 dinner plates, and 4 teacups and saucers. The dinner plates, octopus salad plate, and teacups are on backorder so I haven't received them yet. But today I received the sugar bowl, creamer and three salad plates! They are so charming! As others have mentioned the motif continues onto the back so I will include pictures so you can see that. My only regret is that I couldn't afford to buy a place setting for 8. Jump on these now! Rated 5 out of 5 by A quirky delight I started cautiously on this purchase, with 4 dinner plates, 4 salad plates (the octopus print), and one cup and saucer, and liked the set so much I came back for the bowls, the other salad plates, and more cups and saucers (back-ordered, oh well). The pieces arrived packaged very well-- there was a tiny chip in the rim of the cup, but it looked as if it had happened early in the manufacturing process, since there's glaze over it, and it's so small I couldn't bring myself to go to the trouble of returning it. As the other reviewers have said, part of the delight of these pieces is that the patterns continue all over the surfaces, and, in fact, are sometimes quite surprising. The back of the salad plates have a squid or octopus printed in different colors, not the dominant blue and white of the face of the plates. I enjoy these little hidden secrets. The bowls are deep and a nice contrast to the busy-ness of the patterns on the rest of the pieces, they have no sea creatures, just the stripes that appear to be open ocean, embossed anchors, and some shipping stamps (?) nicely located inside and out. I plan to mix these with my plain white china for larger dinner parties, but at the moment, I keep concocting reasons to make something special to eat from them. They make me smile. May 2, 2010
Rated 3 out of 5 by A+ Aesthetic, C- thin edges I *love* these for their edgy maritime sensibility, solid feel and dishwasher safety. I bought 12 large plates and a mix of 4 each of the smaller plates to make 12 also. However, the edges are very thin, particularly in comparison to the rest of the plate, and I have trouble with them chipping. I am not particularly rough on my dishes, but have found after a little less than a year of everyday use that many are chipped in several places along the edges. If you were planning on using these for every day, please reconsider. December 20, 2011
