I was pleasantly surprised at how plush this rug was compared to my vintage, import rugs. The colors are muted yet rich. I bought the 2x3 for the area beneath my kitchen sink and find myself staring at it with pleasure.

by relevartemit Pretty colors but messy-looking, thick yarn
I ordered the square foot sample of this rug for $20, as I was thinking of purchasing it eventually and figured if nothing else it could be a pretty little accent piece on the wall or a shelf somewhere. The color I ordered was "mauve" which on the website currently is the only color, however when I clicked to review the rug a photo of a red and blue colored version pops up, so maybe they are releasing a new color palette soon (and it's pretty!).
Based on the pictures I was expecting the pattern to look much sharper than it actually does. However, the pattern is not very sharp looking at all because the knots per square inch (KPSI) is quite low, and each yarn/knot is very very thick. In the photos I put the sample rug on top of my existing persian rug so that the contrast is evident. The persian rug that I have is a high KPSI and thus the patterns are sharp and it is very, very easy to clean. In the case of the Double Diamond Rug, I cannot begin to imagine the nightmare of cleaning this thing. You can't vacuum it and so it certainly should not go in a high-traffic area. That pretty well nixes my intention to put it under my coffee table. It would undoubtedly collect hair and dust etc, and I know this because I bought anthropologie's shag ikat rug from a few years ago, and while it was gorgeous and lovely to look at and walk around on, it was a mess to keep up. This rug isn't quite shag, but in some ways it's worse because the yarn is thicker so it's not soft and plush enough to create a barrier on top, so anything that falls into it will just fall right to the bottom.
Anyway, I would consider buying a larger size, on sale, simply because the color palette is so beautiful, and i like that the rug is asymmetric in its pattern, but in the end I'd rather just buy another antique persian rug on eBay or something. Or wait for anthro's next rug that really grabs me :)
