Barbara Keal is a live artist and feltmaker whose internationally recognized work blurs the boundaries between sculpture, craft and fashion. She began felting in 2007, using sheep and alpaca fleece sustainably sourced from local farms to create one-of-a-kind animal headpieces. What started as an interest quickly became a passion, and in 2010, she successfully debuted her wearable works of art at the Craft Council's prestigious Origin London fair. Each of these handmade creations are perched on a stand fashioned by her husband Richard Keal, a trained carpenter whose creations run the gamut from elaborate built-in cabinetry to bespoke art. He sources timber from tree surgeons in their hometown of Sussex, England, taking particular care to collect irregular branches with complementary shapes and hues. His work has been widely shown at local festivals and fairs, and alongside Barbara at Origins London in 2010.
