Rated 5 out of 5Â by Marston Great read
I was attracted to this book twofold because my career and healthcare choice are focused on herbalism and also because I like a good drink.
The history and use of bitters in Western civilization is definitely a topic that gets skipped in traditional history. Even in university courses centered around drugs, herbs and/ or pharmacology history you don't get any information on bitters. They're often relegated into the snake oil category of wasted time and space.
However, this book shines a spotlight on the history and making and use of bitters both then and now.
The writing is wonderfully fluid and entertaining. The author has some pretty fun and unique stories that he has personally lived through with bitters.
I think I may be inspired to make my own too!
Definitely an actual good read for yourself (you'll sound smarter at parties with all of your obscure bitters factoids) or a good gift for a friend who loves alcohol, medicine or herbs.
