Windward Dress

Rated 4 out of 5 by Awkward shark fin? Like the other review has already stated, this is a beautiful well-made dress with an awkward piece on the back. The fit is a bit on the small side. I am 5'2", 34B, usually wearing size 2 or 2 Petite for dresses, but I need a size 4 for this one. However, it hugged my curve perfectly and showed off my waistline. The skirt ended around my knee. (Therefore I don't think I would need to order the Petite size.) I was so excited to come out of the fitting room to show dear hubby this nice dress and that was when he asked me why I have shark fin attached on the back..... It is indeed looked awkward and it seems quite difficult to remove that awkward piece by myself. Some tailor work is definitely required.... I will pass it for now but if it goes on sale, I will definitely grab it and find a good tailor to remove that awkward shark fin. July 2, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect minus the train/veil? thing. This dress is an absolute stunner... fits true to size..flattering and comfortable. Color is a more on the white side than shown. Looks even better in person than in the photo, elegant and high quality. I would have purchased this dress then and there if it had not been for the weird embellishment on the back. A veil, a train, a wing?? It just didn't look right to me.. and not easily removed. So if it goes on sale, I would probably try to get it tailored... but so so bummed...the flutter piece can't be belted or tacked down... If you don't mind this embellishment.. I recommend giving it a try! This is one of my favorite dresses in a long time...but... alas. June 28, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Gorgeous, timeless piece I saw this on a mannequin in the store and knew I had to try it on. A gorgeous mix of eyelet, lace and scalloped hem...what's not to love? The dress comes with a detachable slip, rather than being lined directly. It is a bit of a hassle, but well worth the little extra effort! It is a neutral tan color and I do like the slight contrast with the off-white fabric. My only minor complaint is that the neckline of the slip doesn't match perfectly with the lace panel...I'd prefer the slip to cover my skin completely (all the way up to the eyelet at the neckline) but that's just my preference. The dress is machine washable, which is a bonus (I am not a huge fan of dry clean only or hand wash only pieces). Size wise, I think this dress runs just a tad small. I am a pretty solid 6 in most things from Anthro (there are a few specific brands where I need an 8) but the 6 in this dress was a bit too tight for my liking. I could tell I would need a larger size when I was just putting on the slip. I could zip up the dress no problem, but if I ate anything there would be some unsightly bulges around my waist (29")! Also, if I took a deep breath, my chest would look squished and flat (I am in between 32DD and 32DDD, chest measurement is about 38"). I went up to the 8 and I love it so much more. It is still fitted, but gives me breathing room. I could still wear the 8 with a padded bra, probably, but it is in no way too loose. I would say though it is a bit loose at the very top at the back, but I do believe it's just how the eyelet fabric sits. Regarding the flutter/extra piece of lace in the back, it doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I think it adds to the romantic and vintage feel of this dress. If you don't like it, I think it can be removed pretty easily by an experienced tailor. I was devastated when I discovered that my dress had a couple of make up stains on it. Unfortunately, due to the light color and how you need to put the dress on/take it off, most of the dresses I looked at had this problem. I loved this dress so much and I was determined to bring the dress home with me, so I brought it to the attention of the store manager, and she said I could try to wash it off and if it didn't come off I could go back and do a return. Luckily, some grease cutting dish soap did the trick--everything came right off. Just a warning if you are trying/buying in store to be careful! I am so happy I was able to bring this piece home with me. I will be wearing it for years to come. There are very few pieces of clothing that I fall in love with completely and MUST HAVE (case in point--I purchased it even though it was stained and no discount was applied), but this was one of them. It is perfect in every way, and I'll try to wear it as many times as I can before I need to put it away until next Spring. July 26, 2014
