Rated 5 out of 5Â by WileECoyote the perfect holiday dress
This dress is a show stopper! I recently wore it to a party and was bombarded with compliments all night long. I found the sizing to be bang on, I am a size 8 and that fit perfectly. I do agree that the zipper is tough and that the lace upper irritates your neck a bit, but I had some ribbon sewn in along the edges and the problem is sloved.

I fell in love with this dress as soon as I saw it on-line. The colors of the fabrics are so beautiful on the model and in person - it reminds me of an abstract painting - the blues truly pop through the brilliant reds and are echoed in the under-fabric of the black velvet, rosebud swirled top. Yes, it's a lovely dress to look at!
But! the raw fabric edging of the velvet top is extremely itchy - it's unbearable after about ten minutes. The top fit true to size. I'm a 34B, weigh 120 lbs. and am 4'5", for reference. I take a size 2 or 4 in most Anthropologie dresses. I ordered the 4 and the top fit perfectly with a strapless bra. The velvet belt also fit my waist (it is a fitted waist, make no doubt - there isn't a lot of give) The waist is slightly high on me, not on my natural waist line, but only an inch or inch and a half above it. For reference, I have a 25" natural waist-line.
The hip size doesn't matter, as the skirt on this dress flairs and has plenty of hip room for almost any hip size. The problem with the skirt is that the fabric flairs too much in odd places. It's everywhere. I am a 36" hip and the skirt on this dress over exaggerates my hips and belly immensely - and I don't even have a large belly or hips. The pleating appears unorganized throughout the dress and gives the illusion of multiple "unknowns" to the viewer as to what added flesh may be hiding underneath all of that voluminous fabric. It's strange how a skirt can appear limp and lifeless, yet lumpy and bulky at the same time. It all depends on what angle you are looking at yourself in the mirror.
This skirt has frontal kangaroo pockets, which may be the reason this skirt has such strange depth to it - especially in the belly area, where it creates an illusion of a kind of pooch for people who don't even have a pooch.
The fabric feels lovely in the skirt - the dress's top fabric feels soft, but itchy around the edges. The hem hits me directly at knee length (hiding my kneecaps).
I bought this on sale, but will need to send it back - it's too itchy and distorts my figure. It's a shame, I wanted this dress to be all I had imagined it could be.
I'm not completely dismissing this dress - it certainly is lovely to the eye. I suggest you try it on first if you really like the way it appeals to you by sight alone. You never know, perhaps the dress will be just right for you.
