Rated 4 out of 5 by Gorgeous dress! I had been eyeing this dress off for ages, waiting for it to go on sale and snapped it up as soon as it did despite there being no reviews. It is beautiful. I know it's only a shirt dress, but the material is a thick cotton and the hand painted splashes of colour make it sooo individual. It fits TTS and comes to my knees (5'5") which is perfect. I hand washed it when I got it and there was some colour run. It also needs to be ironed inside out so that the paint splashes don't melt onto the iron! I can see this being a staple in my wardrobe for years to come. At the sale price, it was a good buy, with the extra % off sale, it's a steal. October 23, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Beautiful dress, a little shapeless I have been watching this dress ever since it came online in an email alert, and as soon as it came on sale I ordered! It is a beautiful dress. The patterns on mine are not as dense as the model, leaving me with more plain blue, but it still looks great. The material is a thick cotton, and it is knee length on me, making this dress trans-seasonal. My one criticism is that the dress is a little shapeless (even for a shirt dress). The sash needs to be wrapped a few times to obtain a waist. Maybe some locals could try a size down and tell the online world if it is worth sizing down? My feeling is that it might be. November 2, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Wonderful fabric, Average fit I’ve been trying to make this dress work for a couple of days; the issue is it seems shapeless through the middle. I wanted this dress at full price but am glad I waited for sale. I ordered a 6 although I am generally a 4 as I need the extra shoulder width for a fitted dress. Frequently a 6 in a dress is good as I am tall. It seems a good size for me except it doesn’t come in as fitted as I would have expected. Nevertheless, it has a sash so I thought this would solve the problem but it seemed to ‘paper bag’ the look with volume above and below the waist. I worked out that the sash is too thin for a heavy fabric dress with not a lot of shape (see the model when the sash is removed) so I tried other belts. The thicker the belt, the better the look. I ended up wrapping the sash around 3 times with a short knot at the front and this looked vastly improved. I noticed afterwards that the red version of this dress has a picture of just this tie with the sash. I really don't think a size down would take out all the extra mid-section fabric. If you find this issue with the shape then I suggest you draw the pleats a little to the front and make two dart lines running from the bust down as too much fabric bunched at the back looks odd. The buttons are surprisingly cheap looking. I think for a dress of this price a nicer button would have gone a long way, especially if you plan to open the top couple leaving them quite visible. I think this is a cool dress and has a 70’s retro (shirt dresses were the thing!) yet contemporary vibe. I tried this dress with a choker necklace and the Yuma booties in blue and it looks good. GREEN MOTIF Style #:25777970 A Made In Kind design.

The art collective Fort Makers revels in creating unconventional projects at their sunny Brooklyn studio. Here, a classic cotton chambray dress is handpainted by artist Naomi Clark; the timeless shape allows her abstract-expressionistic brushstrokes to take center stage. No two are exactly alike.
