Tieback Booties

Rated 3 out of 5 by Disappointing These looked cute in the photos, but in real life aren't nearly as nice a quality of leather as I'd expected given the price. As something of a boot fanatic, I have boots made by Frye, Rachel Comey, Chie Mihara, and Sendra, and the leather on these Hudson's is significantly thinner and stiffer and the soles not as well made in comparison. For boots or shoes over the $300 mark, I expect substantial, supple leather and detailed, high-quality craftsmanship. That said, they're still an interesting style, fit true to size, and seemed comfortable during the brief walk I took around my house, so I'd recommend them if they go on sale for at least half the price. Full price, though? Nah, you can find much better quality for the money. Back mine went. October 26, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Ouch These boots are adorable, but very uncomfortable. Very stiff leather, no footbed; kind of like little coffins for the feet! Going back...can't recommend to any but those with feet of iron. October 12, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by no thanks i have been looking for some short, flat brown boots this year to replace another pair that died, and i was so excited about these. the style is really unique, the color is the perfect distressed medium brown, and they looked like they might be comfortable... but these are hands-down the slickest soles i have ever put on. i wore them around my house on carpet, tile, and wood, and slipped like a kid learning to ice skate. these would be a nightmare on a downhill sidewalk. the soles are HARD POLISHED LEATHER (except for a small patch of rubber on the heel). personally i have a hard time just with regular leather soles--i don't think they get less slippery no matter how much you scuff them up, and i also find they wear down more easily than rubber soles. please, shoe people, stop making me choose between having cute shoes and not breaking my neck! let me have both! beyond that, they were not a good fit for me. i have a narrow foot, and i usually wear an 8.5. i ordered the 39, and they were really loose in the heel, and really tight in the toe--not too short, just too tight, as in my toes went numb. the leather would probably soften up over time and mold to the shape of my foot, but in the meantime--ouch. plus the bulge in the front caused by the tie-back style (see photo 5) made my average ankles look pretty wide. i'm definitely going to send these back and keep looking...
