Petrified Wood Trivet

Rated 5 out of 5 by A beautiful organic piece A gorgeous piece for the home. I ordered mine online, so knew it was a bit of a chance purchase. Being petrified wood they are all different, and mine is actually very different to that in the picture. Nevertheless, it is beautiful, and I'm thrilled to have this "one of a kind" piece of nature. As another reviewer said, it was very dusty on arrival, and the outer edge is somewhat caked in dirt. I cleaned it gently with soap and water and a toothbrush. Be careful of the outer edge though - while the centre is now very hard rock essentially, the edges are still a little more brittle. I had to be careful with the washing because of this. The finish of the slice is a little dull also - not at all polished as the description states. I actually like the matte look on mine, but I did add a few drops of olive oil, which I wiped on with paper towel, and then shined up a little with a soft cotton rag. It's helped bring out the colours and details a little without giving a high shine finish. As my piece is so different in appearance, I wanted to post some photos to show you the range of variation that you can get with this piece. Mine is much paler, and has some very interested quartz veins/inclusions. It's stunning and I love it already! Also... you get a massive slab of rock for the price - to me it seems like a bargain - mine weighs 3kg (6.5 lb)! My piece measures approx 10" by 8" and is about an inch and a half thick. Rated 5 out of 5 by Gorgeous I picked this stunner up and turned it over nervously, expecting a price tag of over $100. $48 is still substantial, but for how heavy (6 lbs. to be exact) and beautiful it is, it's worth it. It is currently sitting on our dining room table. I plan to use it as decor and as a trivet, as well as a stylish place to put the salt and pepper shakers, but it can also be used as a giant communal coaster. I can't begin to describe how beautiful it is in person. I would definitely go into the store to purchase if you're near one. They're all different of course; color, marks, cracks. Warning, they are VERY dirty/dusty, be prepared to hand wash yours with a mild soap before you display. The one I chose is very rustic and unpolished on one side, and shiny and black on the other (much like the stock photo). I like that I can turn it over depending on the mood I want to create. See photos I uploaded. So pleased. If it ever goes on sale I will probably scoop up at least one more. It's nice to buy for beauty and functionality. And with Anthro, sometimes that is difficult, so I'm pretty psyched about this purchase. April 21, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by sooooo cool! I got this as a birthday gift, I had asked for it, not knowing what I would do with it but that I HAD to have it! My mom purchased it in store, which was good because there is a great variation between pieces in terms of pattern, design, etc. It's so smooth, like glass, great quality, and SOLID! It's really heavy! The edges are chalky so I'll have to wash it gently, but I plan to use it as a server (like pictured) or as a coaster/display on a table top in my living room. August 1, 2012
