I had a similar experience as a former reviewer with cracking on the bottom. One day I noticed the bottom was crumbling and the sides had a couple of large cracks running up the side. It must have been because the lid would fall in. The lid is heavy and the material pretty thin. I didn't try to return because it had been a couple months since I had purchased and the order wasn't showing in my history. I used epoxy to try to stop the cracking and crumbling. I will now use this just for decorative purposes. If I had known this was going to be a purley decorative piece, I probably wouldn't have bought due to the price.

A good size for counter-tops, definitely fits a whole loaf of bread, I may use it as a cookie jar though. The description is accurate however the wooden lid is not treated or stained with anything, I am not sure how well it would work as a cutting board for anything except dry bread.

I absolutely love this beautiful bread bin but am so disappointed in the quality. The ceramic is so thin and fragile and the lid does not situate easily onto the top. As a result the lid has the tendency to fall into the bin. As a result the bottom of my bin has shattered and there are large cracks going up the sides. For the high price tag I expected a much better quality.
