Great Little Cocktail Dress
I recently bought this dress for a Summertime wedding taking place on Sydney Harbour, later this year. I loved everything about this dress.
I have a straight up and down figure and this dress actually gave me a waistline. The neckline is edged with narrow black trim and is beautifully cut - flattering the bust area - but not overly emphasizing... The fabric falls well, the print is pretty without being too fussy; and I loved the varying blue colours with the lifts of white. (I have dark hair and blue eyes - so those blue colours work pretty well.)
The dress is mid-calf length on me; however after consultation from several girlfriends, I'm not taking it up as it's pretty perfect that way - in line with current trends and cutting an elegant silhouette.
I measured myself according to the fitting chart...I normally range between a 10 and an 8 in Anthro sizes. I went with the 8 and was glad I did. The sizing is on the generous side. I probably could have gone down to a six - but will just have the shoulder straps taken up a little and will be having a light wrap made to match the outfit in case it gets cold on the harbour later in the evening. I'm 51 - so I like the width of the straps.
All in all, a lovely vintage look dress. Best of all, I had a great response from my husband, adult children and girlfriends when I tried it on for them! Looking forward to wearing...and dancing the night away.
Lovely design, a couple of flaws
I love the vintage look of this piece, but there are a bunch of flaws with the design and quality. First, it's unlined, which seems an oversight at this price. Second, the fabric looks like it's going to be a rich brocade or at least a bright, deep satin, but it looks much duller and cheaply printed in person. Lastly, the sleeves are very widely set and loose-fitting. It feels like they will easily fall off the shoulder when moving around. If this was $100, it would be a no-brainer, but as such, it's not a keeper.
