Rated 4 out of 5 by Gretel Door Hardware Needed You will need to replace your existing hardware to use these door knobs. You need a 2-3/8" Backset Mortise Latch. Anthropologie said you could find them at HD or Lowes, I could not. I had to order on-line, they cost around $11 per door. You will also need a back plate, look on-line as well. I bought a set of 10, (for 5 doors) on ebay for $50. The plates that come with the doorknobs do not cover existing holes in doors. That is why people wrote the doorknob comes off in people's hands. You need to remove the plate that comes with the knob, purchase another larger backplate to screw into the wood on the door. I recommend Anthropolgie includes this information on the website and in-store. It's been very time consuming figuring this out. August 22, 2009
Rated 4 out of 5 by Monkdog oh dear spindle trouble Unfortunately the spindles supplied with these knobs were only 3.5 inches long and so was not long enough for any but the thinnest and cheapest doors. Ours are at least 1.5 inches thick and what is needed is a spindle at least 4.5 inches long. fortunately I found a supplier online and am now waiting for their arrival. other than that we very much like the design. Rated 5 out of 5 by LolaLand Sweet and charming I bought this item to add a touch of wit to our multi-paned, red front door, and I was so pleased when it arrived. The knob is heavy and well-made, and I found that it easily dismantles to add hardware or a larger strike plate if the hole in the door is too large. (But then, I'm rather handy.) One thing to note: the lettering and design on the knob are actually a dark blue. I was led to think black from the picture, but it mad no difference to me. In all, a sweet little touch to any door in the house! November 6, 2009
