Anna-Wili Highfield creates fantastical animal sculptures from archival cotton paper. The daughter of a puppeteer, she spent her childhood surrounded by theatre and went on to study painting at the National Art School in Sydney, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Before turning her attention to sculpture in 2005, Anna was a scenic artist for Opera Australia.
This soaring petrel took flight after artist Anna-Wili Highfield crafted its body by hand-painting, tearing and finally sewing together pieces of paper over a copper pipe frame. Mounted on a timber block.
